VMSP9: Trimmer, Preview & Envelope Questions

I am a newly converted Vegas user and have played around V08 and V09 for the trials and then just took the plunge and bought VMS PP 9.0. I have 9.0a installed on a Vista32 computer (C2D, 2.66 GHz) machine. I have also been reading the forum and have also read the entire Vegas Pro manual. for some time to pick up tips and tricks. Special thanks to Eugenia for all her time posting and her blog! I really appreciate it!

I have a bunch of questions - some easy and some a bit more challenging.

1. I would like to use the jog shuttle (j/k/l) for previewing AVCHD files. It doesn’t seem like it is possible. My best workaround so far is to set the preferences to doubleclick to load in the trimmer and then use the trimmer to preview. Is that correct or am I missing something? Essentially, I want to be able to fast forward through some footage.

2. Marking in/out in trimmer – I can’t seem to be able to add a “mark in” or “Mark out” in the trimmer and then drag that section to the timeline. I thought they covered this in the Vegas Pro manual, but I can’t get it to work in VMSPP9.0a. Ideally, I would like to set my marks and then drag the selection to the timeline
3. In the preferences, it says “save trimmer markers to file”. How does it do that? Presumably the original file is untouched? I would guess it saves it in an additional file. But if you could confirm, that would be appreciated.
4. Scripting is a Vegas Pro add-on. But
a.Do Davitools work in VMS PP9? I am especially interested in the videowall. http://www.davitools.com/default.aspx
b. What about the VAAST PIP script?
5. What is the best way to remove background noise from a voice over within Vegas? I seem to get a background hiss. I have tried the Audacity workaround and that didn’t seem to work since the noise was broad spectrum noise (not just 50 or 60 Hz). I played around with Noise Gate and it didn’t seem to work. But I might not be using it properly (even with the included instructions) Any hints or other plugins to use?
6. Is there a way to make a volume envelope for all 5/6 tracks when editing 5.1 surround sound? Would be nice to make my pans or adjustments. For example, if I want to make a volume adjustment to all tracks, it would be good to draw the envelope on one track and automatically have the envelope on the audio tracks too (sometimes). Or is there a way to use surround mixer for this? Sort of like volume envelope adjustments as easy as creating a transition by clicking and dragging a clip onto another clip. Or perhaps a way to copy envelopes?

Apologies for so many questions all at once. I had them stored up, as you are not allowed to post if you don’t own a Sony Creative Software product (eg. Trials are excluded). I didn't own a copy until now.

Thanks again for your help.

Sound Forge should have come with the Vegas package. Under Tools is "Audio Restoration". Give that a try.

Kalvos,

I just installed Sound Forge, so I just tried it. I haven't gotten perfect yet, but I am already off to a better voice over. Thanks for the tip!

Still hoping that someone can help with the other questions (I removed #4 and 5 - they add-ons don't work for a variety of reasons with V9 on a Vista system)....
