VMSPP 9 and 10 and .mov files

Just called presales support before purchasing the upgrade to VMSPP 10. I had asked on this forum previously about the possibility of using VMSPP 9 to edit .mov files filmed with the new digital SLR's that take HD video - Panasonic GH-1 and the new Canon T2i.

I was clearly told by memebrs of this forum to steer clear as VMSPP 9 will edit or import these files. I heeded their advice. Now I see the available upgrade and called presales to see if that had changed with version. The rep said it shouldn't have been a problem in version 9.

So - SONY says I should be able to edit the HD .mov files in VMSPP 9 and the forum says no. If I buy the camera and it doesnt work Im out a 20% restocking fee.

Once and for all - can VMSPP 9 or 10 edit the .mov output of a Canon T2i or Lumix GH-1 DSLR?

(PS the customer service rep admitted she wasnt sure and told me to post to the forum...useless as tits on a bull those sales reps)

I own a Panasonic GH1 and shoot full HD 1920x1080 video @ 16:9 aspect ratio. This is a native format for the GH1.

For video the GH1 produces AVCHD output files with an MTS extension. It does not produce .MOV files.

I own the T2i. I upgraded to version 10. I can confirm it handles the native T2i files pretty well.

@Birk...how are you liking the micro 4/3 format of this camera? I am still on the fence between the T2i and the GH-1.

Want the flexibility of the Canon as far as lenses, but the GH-1 comes with a sweet lens as the kit lens and has a lot of nice features. The Micro 4/3 lenses are prices SO ridiculously high vs the Canon EF compatible lenses.
If they both can be edited in VMSPP 10, then Im really confused! Any thoughts?

Read Philip Bloom's blog on this issue. He is the guru of dslr video:

Bloom says if you plan to do intensive color grading, the Gh1's avchd files are less suited, so go for the T2i.
