VOB files

I can place (DVD) VOB files into Architect 2, and see them play...but NO AUDIO! Is VOB a non-no? IFO's act same way.

Also, with say 4 buttons in a menu, I'd like to have the DVD return to the main menu button selection screen after playing any button video. Is this selectable/automatic? Doesn't do it on my new Pioneer standalone player nor on computer.

You must first demultiplex the VOB into its component parts. When you do, make sure that you create a Program stream, not an Elementary stream.

I have seen term "demuxing". I am unsure which software will do this. Maybe you have some suggestions? Also explain "program stream" and "elementary stream". And does using the demuxed streams shorten the time for final renderring under Arch2? Thanks!

VOBEdit, DVD2AVI and many others are capable of demuxing a VOB. A program stream typically refers to an MPEG-2 file that has audio and video (along with some timing information) multiplexd together. Vegas (and DVDA) prefer a program stream that has no audio. An elementary stream is either an audio or video stream, but not muxed.

if you audio is in AC3 format (which it may well be), then DVD2AVI may be the better way to go as it will decode the AC3 audio into a PCM file for you (Vegas won't read AC3).

Thanks all, for all the help. DVD's are *tricky* for me at best! I'll try the sites you suggested....

It looks like DVDA3 does not have any improvements in how it handles it's own VOB file format. I was hoping to be able to load a VOB with muxed AC3 or an MPEG2 with muxed AC3 but looks like still a no go. Maybe ver. 7?
