Hello,
I have DVDA4 and i try to make a compilation, with dvdshrink i extract from differents DVD some scenes and i would like to burn a DVD with these vob files. In DVDA i tried add media but DVDA doesn't recognize VOB files as media. (Nero do this !!!) what's wrong ?
2nd question : is it possible to create fade in and fade to create smooth transitions (+ chapter indexation) between each scene ?
Thanks in advance for informations.

DVDA is a DVD authoring program - it creates VOB's, it doesn't use them as source.

If you want to do editing, create fade-ins, outs, etc., use the right tool; it's called Vegas.

You are starting with the worst possible source material you could. MPEG-2 is a delivery format, not an editing format. So Vegas must first decompress some very heavliy compressed data, apply the effects and then recompress. So yes, depending on your processor/disk speeds, it could take hours and hours.

If you are looking at doing lots of MPEG-2 editing, you might want to take a look at something like Womble.

You CAN use VOB files in DVDA. I do it all the time. While VOB is not a recognized file extension by DVDA if you import media using the All Files dialogue, you can select a VOB, and all of the ones I've tried so far work without a problem.

However, the VOB you use must be continuous. 1GB sequential VOBs do not sync up correctly. If you use a program to extract a VOB from a DVD, specify for that program to extract the file as one continuous VOB, rather than have it break it up into 1GB chunks - the normal default.

Nero doesn't care - it will automatically join the VOB chunks together.

I did this very thing last weekend to re-author a church production DVD I had done last year and it worked perfectly using a utility I found somewhere to create a single VOB. I assume DVD Shrink you are using will create a single continuous VOB if you set an option somewhere.
