VOB files, CSS and MacroVision ?

Hi there,

I often need to get material from DVD-Video disks,
I currently use DVD Decrypter, but that ain't doing all the DVD's,
often the files aren't imported correctly.

What does Sony Vegas need to work with VOB files ?
The removal of CSS ? And MacroVision also ?

What do I need to do to get material from ordinary DVD's ?
Hooking up a DVDplayer is not an option.

Version 6.0c added DVD import capability.
File - Import - DVD Camcorder Disc.
This feature will not work on copyrighted discs.

Macrovision is easily removed by cropping off the top few scanlines from the frame.

What does it actually DO when it's being imported through this special import function ?
What is it doing different then when importing a normal MPEG-2 file ?

Everything is copyrighted, even the DVDs that you and I produce on DVD-R are copyrighted. What you mean to say is that "This feature will not work on discs encdoded with CSS and/or Macrovision.

There are several cheap tools to deal with DVD/CD copyprotection effectively like AnyDVD or DVDIdle.

So... Why is there this seperate import function for DVDs ?
Why not just import the DVD-Video files like any other format ?
Is this import function actually doing something special ?
Or is it just a fancy looking extra menu item that doesn't really do anything different than the normal import funtions ?

The Import from DVD Camcorder Disc is the only method by which Vegas natively reads AC3 audio. If you drag VOB files to the timeline you won't have any sound.
