VOB transfer to Sony Vegas

Classic problem. .VOB files in Vegas only show up as 20-second clips, and the audio is screwy. I've tried the .VOB to .MPG...that didn't work. I don't have any other kinds of softward except DVD Architect.

My computer is an HP, Windows Vista Home Premium. Should I just bite the bullet and get an A / V cord to capture directly?

Did you try File / Import / DVD Camcorder Disc?

Do what Peter says. That will probably work. However, you may still get glitches at the points where the resulting MPEG-2 files join (either audio or video glitches). If so, do what I suggested in this post:

How to edit VOB files in Vegas using DVD Shrink

However, once in awhile (I had it happen yesterday) you will still end up with a VOB which will only play for a few seconds. In that case, you have to use a tool which will convert the VOB to MPEG-2. There are quite a few of these, and you can find them over at VideoHelp. Most are free. If you want a really great tool (not free, however) which will reliably turn the VOB generated by my technique into an MPEG-2 that performs flawlessly on the timeline, use Womble. If you use the above technique, and then simply use the "extract" function in Womble to create an MPEG-2 file, you will get audio/video on the Vegas timeline that works every time.

And finally, if you want stellar performance of MPEG-2 on the Vegas timeline, even in version of Vegas going back to V4, then use this technique:

Using DGIndex and VFAPI to edit MPEG-2
