VOB wrong length?

I searched on the topic, did not find the answer, so here is my question:
I am trying to create a new menu using a DVD that was made on a stand alone DVD recorder (Panasonic 3040). I am aware of the AC3 issue, I know how to address it. I am having trouble with placing the VOB files on the timeline. They are several times shorter than the real length. The same files play correctly using WinDVD or other players.
What is the problem?

I have had the exact same problem, the only way I got around it was with a program called DVD decrypter.

"use dvd decrypter and extract as a stream ...

That's what I was told also he said there's a lot of help at www.videohelp.com, but I didn't follow what they were saying.

Hope it helps

Hmm, I tried with the same results :-(
A 30 min file looks like 5 minutes on the timeline
