Voice Over Recording

Hi-

Trying to record using V4 to my HDD. Got a mic plugged in, an audio track open, the first time it asked where to place the file. Hit the record button. I can see the VO audio on the meter.

No file is created. The Recorded files dialog box does not appear. I have not tried this before, so not sure what I am doing wrong.

Thanks.

Did you hit the record button in the track header AND the record button on the transport? It takes two actions to initiate recording.
Arm the track by clicking the record button on the track header, then press the Record button on the Transport or press CTRL+R.
For best results, record to a named folder, and preferably to a drive other than your system drive.

Also, after you arm the track, don’t forget to set the Record Device Selector on the track header to Mono (Left) unless you are using a stereo mic. The Record Device Selector shows up just to the left of the record button after you arm the track.

Thanks for the quick response, didn't get that you had to do both the track record and CTRL+R.

Working fine now.

Followup, but related...

I have a loop region marked so that I record multiple takes. Works great. After recording I can playback and hit "T" to cycle between takes, all of which are saved in my media bin as one long audio file with each take concatenated onto the previous..

However, I later want to drop the takes onto a different audio track, I can't figure out how to do it. Even if I right-click on the media object, drag it to the track, and select "Add as Takes", the media file is added in its "exploded" entirety...one take after another. I'd like to add the takes to the new audio track as a single take and cycle through them using "T" as before.

What am I missing here?

Insert a new audio track directly below the other previously recorded track. Select the region you recorded the multiple takes into. Hit the numeric key on the keyboard keypad "2". Make sure "Num Lock" is enabled when you do this. This will drop that event with the multiple takes onto the empty track you just created.
