Volume change question

RickZ wrote on 11/1/1999, 9:02 AM
Hi All,

I have recorded a stereo .wav file at 24/96, but peak level
is about -21 dB. I would like to make a gain change on the
24 bit samples, writing the new level to a new file.

I've tried looking in Mix to New Track, but can't seem to
figure out how to do this. Sorry to be so dense . .

Any help would be greatly appreciated !

Thanks,
Rick Z

Have you tried to normalize the event? (Right click on the event and
select properties.) You can set the normalize default peak level in
the Audio preferences page.

But to answer your question....

'Mix to new track" will follow any volume/gain settings you have on
both the track and main bus. So to increase the gain:

- Solo the track you want
- Set the main bus gain or track gain
- Mix to new

Yes ! Works great. I notice that both gain controls max out at
+12dB, so in this case I needed to use both to get the +20 level
increase req'd.

For this live pipe organ recording at a local college, we (student
recordists and myself) didn't get the promised audio level check
before the recital, so we had to play it safe.

Thanks for your help, Peter !

No need to re record or mix to new, all you have to do is right click
on the wave go to switches>then normilize. you can do this again to
subsiquent regions with in your peak nomilized wave by splicing new
regions out of it and repeating, then grab the top of the wave and
pull down to control fgain
