volume level

referring back to my synchronization post, for some reason clip1 and clip2 came out with 2 different volume levels rendering the synchro i wanted to perform useless (the clips i'm matching have 2 different volume levels). is there a way in VMS to adjust clip1 to the same volume level as clip 2? i figure there must be one number/attribute i can refer in each clip to modify the volume level of 1 clip to match the other. i looked at the mixer but since each word brings the green bars up to different levels even within the same volume setting, i'd just be guessing at the exact right level to adjust the mixer for the clip that is too loud. how do i set the volume level to the exact same level in each clip?

There's nothing automatic you can do. Probably the best you can do is to find the same peak in both clips, play them individually, and find the loudest peak level reported on the meters. Subtracting one from the other will tell you the difference. If there was any difference in the recording process, including things like different mics, mics in different positions, different electronics after the mics, etc., then this may not be very meaningful since any of these things will change the dynamics. If the dynamics are different then the clip with less dynamics will sound louder when the peaks match.

Choose the louder clip, Hover the mouse pointer at the top edge of the audio event on the timeline. The mouse pointer will change to a little hand with a pointy finger. Click and drag down. A blue line appears across the top of the clip. The farther you drag this line down the more you will reduce the volume. A reduction amount is shown in dB. Match the number you determined above.
