VP 11 hangs up and won't open

MikeyDH wrote on 5/31/2012, 3:19 PM
Things were fairly smooth until of late. The program wants to hang at start leaving me sit here and wait. Like waiting for a bus that never shows. I have to reboot the computer to get it to go again every time...

I close out of the program and when clicking it on again it gets to Initializing external monitor and here we sit. Anyone have a clue to what is happening here? I sure don't. I tried uninstall and reinstall to no answer.

Can anyone offer a suggestion? Is there a procedure to uninstall and to get a clean install?
As it is I can't open more than one instance of Vegas.
The problem does not exist with VP10.
I ran CCleaner to see if there were any registry problems to no avail.

As I read the instructions I need to uninstall all Sony applications. Correct? Would this include Sonic Foundry Vegas 3?

Well after doing all of the work to do a clean install the program still exhibits the same behavior.....:^(

I have not a clue what could have changed for it to act this way.

Just a thought but go into the event view, system, and scan for any disk errors.

(Run on start menu then type: eventvwr.msc)

I have vieiwed the events and have come up with some errors. This one came up a couple of times:

The program vegas110.exe version 11.0.0.683 stopped interacting with Windows and was closed. To see if more information about the problem is available, check the problem history in the Action Center control panel

Of course there was no information available in the Action Center history tab.

Looks like a re-format in my future. Unless someone can decipher the mess. SCS support gave me instruction for the fix, but it didn't go as well as I had hoped. I uninstalled and cleared the files, restatrted and then went in as another user. I downloaded and installed the program there as an administrator. Once I got it up and running I was to get rid of the new user and go back to my seat. To make a long story short. It didn't open at all.To think i was having no major problems to here....^(

Why do I feel like a man in the wilderness here?????

Anyone out there?

I just don't think anyone else is experiencing this, so head scratching doesn't yield any results that are worthy to post.

When it hangs, are you getting any clips on the timeline, even if they are not filling with thumbnails or waveforms?

I just upgraded my system to a new Nvdia GTX570 card, and now I am also experiencing this problem. It is sticking at the point of the start of Vegas 11 build 683 where it says it's "Creating Windows". This was working prior to my installation of the GTX570. It *eventually* brings up Vegas, after about 3 minutes, so you might try waiting.

I am logged in as me with admin privs, so that's not the issue. Taskman shows that Vegas is running, not "not responding".

This was happening earlier today with the last build of Vegas,so I upgraded to the new build (683) but no change to the behavior. Exactly same place of hanging.

If it is going to take 3 minutes to actually launch the product, it may the final straw for me. To be clear, Adobe's products all launched fine today on the same box when I tried to see if it was something in the graphics card affecting all the programs. No dice. Just Vegas....sheesh.

Keeping tabs on your post, but unfortunately I have no ideas or suggestions. If you end up reformatting and reinstalling your OS and apps please let us know if that solves your issue.

Thanks for the moral support. I posted in a state of frustration. I understand that not all can possibly be tuned to the same station. Things really were fine after a few battles I won with the program. Then out of the clear blue there is a counter attack that has me in retreat looking for reinforcements.

Now after reading of Alf having the same problem I'm thinking there is a common denominator someplace causing the problem. I replied to the ticket of what happened with the SCS solution and will wait until I hear back before doing the re-format. I have a couple of forums looking into the possible problems who are as stumped as I. I certainly appreciate their efforts.

@Mudsmith, it is not getting past the "initializing external monitor" on the splash screen. As Alf says, the task manager shows the program as running.

Make sure all of your Windows .nets are up to date and then try switching to Vista compatibility mode. Also try turning off UAC ---User Account Control.

Thanks JJK. I took your suggestions and updated the .NET'S and turned off the UAC. I was already in Vista compatibility mode. Unfortunately, the program still hangs

Well, I found a solution. A complete reformat and reinstall of the sytem and file components to my system. I'd like to thank those who offered their advice in searching for the cure to the sickness. I was online with three different windows forums for two weeks. I appreciate their efforts.

However, I am disappointed in Sony Creative Software for not getting back to me with answers to my further questions.to troubleshoot. I was hoping to avoid doing all of the work involved in getting up to snuff . As it is I lost somethings that involved a lot of time and work. Hopefully, whatever the problem was will not return.
