VP can't open project media also can't render Nvidia HEVC?

I run into this problem at least once a day when using the trial of 17 with a trial of Boris Sapphire. I'm thinking of upgrading from VP 15.

I've got a new 17 project with Gopro Session 720p video and loads of Sapphire sfx.

After having VP hang anywhere from 1-inf times while working with the project I will open my project back up and VP complains that it can't open the media files. I can play them with VLC just fine.

When this happens, I also find that the Nvidia HEVC render targets are all missing from the Render As dialog.

Reboot and everything's working fine.

Clearly (I think) it's something related to the Nvidia drivers but before doing the driver version dance I wanted to see if anyone else has seen this kind of behavior. The reason I think it's driver related is it appears that the s_lensflare media event is really taxing my system. VP hangs happen more often when it's unmuted.

I know my system's not ideal for heavy fx work but it's what I've got. I'm more concerned at this point in seeing if this file issue is unique to me and my system

@michael-harrison - Yeah: "Nvidia GTX 1050 gpu - version Game Ready 26.21.14.4259 Mar 4 2020" Do try the STUDIO version. I'm running it here with NVENC and its fine.

I meant to add this piccie:

I've gone back and forth between the two types of drivers for various reasons but honestly can't remember if I've seen this with the studio drivers. I'll give them another shot.
