VP11 builds 594/595 - how close to Nirvana?

Hi,

Now - after we have enjoyed VP11 builds 370/371, 424/425, 510/511, 520/521 and 594/595 we can count that SCS has reached Vegas Pro version 11e (according to the old naming convention). Or is it version 11d - I might have counted one to far..?

This is a little alarming since this has typically been the number of bug releases where after the next release is a major (purchasable) upgrade... And it has happened before that some important issues has only bee fixed in the next major upgrade...or even not then...

It seems that some of the the biggest complaints have calmed down after the latest 594/595 release, probably meaning that many of those more fatal errors have been ironed out. That is great by itself - and I'm happy about that.

However, there still occasionally pops up new issues, issues that people can even duplicate. Some basic functionality (especially with the GPU acceleration) is still not working properly.

At this moment I do not dare (or cannot time-vise afford) to use VP11 because of various bugs. At the same time I read in the forums that other still have serious issues plaguing VP11.

So what is the real situation? How close are we to Nirvana***, or will we ever reach it?

Can we live in the hope to get VP11 fixed and will we still get more bug fix releases? In my eyes - Vegas hast lost much of its reputation as a reliable workhorse. It still has many of the features that I like or even love, but my frustration just grows as long as many of them are unusable. Love is blind, but not forever...

I rather would have freedom of this cyclic existence - in other words - have finally a version of Vegas Pro 11 I could use, really rely on - and continue to work with. It would not hurt to also reach the "state beyond sorrows"...

So, serious work is still needed at SCS to iron out the quirks prohibiting serious reliable use of Vegas. OK, no one (application) is perfect, but I assume that even SCS wants to get Vegas back on track and give it back its robustness it once had. Without that happening I am definitely not continuing to VP12. At least not paying for it, be it 4D or whatever... I have been a loyal user since VP6, so I can say that at least since then VP11 has been the buggiest release - so far.

When do we get the next build?

Christian

since sony is a japanese company maybe they follow the japanese philosophy of art in as much as a japanese artist always leaves some 'slight' imperfection, or never 'completes' a work of art as there can be no such thing as a 'perfect' painting?

on the other hand, over at dvinfo it seems the replacing clip bug has reared it's ugly head again. as i wrote there, if so, scs should be thoroughly ashamed.

I'm stuck in a time warp at version 9c. I have my workaround for the "don't mix images with AVCHD" bug, and I keep my fingers crossed and resave from time to time to limit the pain from the "replace footage" bug. Unfortunately I am unable to use some recent plugins that require 10 or 11, so I need another workaround.

I'm not really expecting to reach Nirvana, but I'd at least like to get out of HeII

Well put Leee. However, I was very close to Nirvana when I purchased V6 (I came from Pinnacle "Hell"). Vegas 6 was just something totally out of this world, capable, fast, stable and rock solid. And it NEVER failed - in ANY way. NEVER! Not a single crash or anomaly even if I gave it a very hard ride! Such performance is possible in a well managed, tested and well structured software product written and maintained by a skilled and motivated engineering team.

We just have to make our own conclusions about how Vega's reliability from version to version has degenerated - so something has definitively changed, and radically...Hard to tell the reasons for it. Vegas has become a more complex product, but there is no reason why not a complex product could be made reliable too. Too sad. Equally hard to say if the damage will or can be completely repaired, and when? I certainly hope it will, but I have become sceptical... I have lost enough work hours because of problems, crashes and workarounds, all adding to my frustration. I'm practically still using VP9 because of this. And that IS pathetic, having payed for two major upgrades and still not daring to use others than the oldest installed one...

One other thing that disturbs me a little is the recent SCS campaign that lured users to write customer reviews - with the promise of winning a Sony camera. The "recommends" percentage jumped from 43% to 91% in no time. Who would write a negative review knowing that the chance to win would probably be reduced? Before the start of the campaign (23th of Feb 2012) the majority of the reviews were really negative. Positive ones started immediately to flow in - one day before the campaign was officially announced - and before the latest 594/595 build was even released. To regain a lost reputation - in my honest opinion - that is not the most trustworthy way of doing it. The latest build contained lots of fixes, but still many are awaiting to be fixed to honestly call VP11 the "The Best Editor out there"... If those users are so happy and overwhelmed and everything works well for them, then I'm very glad. But somehow I just get the feeling that the honesty level is a little distorted in such reviews, especially if there is an expensive price luring... Especially when you can leave your contribution namelessly, and they advertise that "For an additional chance to win, leave another review! Each review you write for a product you own counts as a new entry in the sweepstakes"...

I'm' sorry, this has been a bad day for me, that's why this became more like a rant - my apologies for that. I want to emphasize that I just LOVE to use Vegas - but only when it works as intended. It has everything it takes to be a fantastic product. I believe there are many of us that are ready to forget the problems in the past and continue, but for that to happen we need SCS to really focus on the product reliability, instead of just adding new features. It is equally important to keep your old customers, as lure new ones... After all, we old users (when happy) are probably the best promoters for the product anyhow...

Christian,

Amen & eloquently put , from someone who first fell under the alluring spell of Vegas 4 & the wisdom & knowledge of DSE, and I still ponder if he really is quite so passionate about VP 11, things do seem "oh so quiet," in this regard, which I recognize is absolutely only his decision to make, but I do miss his enthusiastic & capable contribution to forum matters.

Christian, I usually shy away from contributing to the more 'emotional' threads, but in the past I started one myself and couldn't resist adding here. Like you, I was a Pinnacle refugee <shudder> who found safe haven in Vegas 6. Same thoughts, same feelings. I'm also now on Build 595.

Staying with Vegas reminds of some pre-marital advice I received years ago. You're on track (to get married to your mate) so long as the 'good' days still outnumber the 'bad' days. Having been 'married' to Vegas through 6 versions, I think my good days still outnumber the bad ones. Call it brand loyalty, but it isn't blind loyalty.
