VP12 stalls loading - GPU?

Musteeno wrote on 12/18/2012, 11:53 AM
Just did a fresh install of 12 and during startup, load hangs on "Initializing GPU-accelerated video processing..." Never launches.

AMD HD 6700s with latest drivers and tried with and without crossfire connect.

With my VP11 install, no issues. Anyone else with these cards with Vegas Pro 12 have issues launching? Simply frustrating to upgrade to take advantage of GPU to have a stalled application.

I had a "stall/hang" while loading older projects, (VP11), with VP12. I was also using the Media Manager 2 to "tag" my sports video clips. I may be wrong on the tech side of this but I was using a workflow similar to this:

1. Use the device explorer to pull my AVCHD clips into VP12.
2. Then I used the Media Manager to tag my video clips. (yes I know that VP12 added this, but that's a different topic.)
3. Save the tag information to the clips and get on with my editing, saving my project periodically.
4. Save and close the project.

The next time I would try and open the project, it would just hang and I would have to force-close Vegas. If the project was really small then I wouldn't have an issue. But 9 times out of ten, my VP 12 would just sit and hang after saving the project, and trying to re-open the same project. With Vegas closed, I went looking in my media folder and found that at some point I got these *.SFL files in with my *.SFK and *.MTS files. My solution was to delete the *.SFL files and leave the others. Now each project opens just fine, and the *.SFL files no longer return. Looking back in my older projects I see that there are *.SFL files in them too, and they open just fine in VP11 but hang in VP12 (except small five clip projects).

Whenever I have had issues opening an older project, I just look for these files and delete them.
You may also verify that you don't have any corrupted media in you media folders. A nested *.VEG project can also be a culprit.

Of course this is not a technical answer, but one based on MY experiences. I wish you luck.

Good Luck!
