VP13 intermittently creating large files via imprt

Hi All,

Starting a couple weeks ago when I import data from my X70s intermittently the files are much larger than the usual ~~ 12GB/hour video.

I had one instance where the file was 33GB, and just today 41GB for an 1hr/46min clip.

I'm simply launching Vegas, and importing as I've been doing for years.

The 'overall bitrate' and the 'maximun overall bitrate' certainly isn't making sense.

I'm sure there's a simple answer.

Thanks, Steve

"importing as I've been doing for years"

What, exactly, are the steps you do to import?

Launch Vegas; Insert SD card; press Control/Alt-F7

"Overall bit rate mode : Variable"

Record length and motion content will impact the overall file size. Record length, MTS will segment files, and upon import will stich them together for a larger file.

On the side. Do not edit MTS files, convert that stuff to XDCAM-ex (MPEG2) or HDCAM-SR-Lite (MPEG-4 - DNxHD/Prores equivalent) if you are really image paranoid. XAVC would be good too, but for HD, I find it has more system requirements than the other 2 codecs.

The Device Explorer window which pops up when importing states that the resulting file should be approx 22GB (about right for 1hr/46min clip). The size estimate is usually pretty accurate.

However, the resulting file on the disk is 43GB.

I'm still trying to determine if the problem is with Vegas or the X70. I've checked the camera settings and both cameras are setup the same.

I've never used the Device Explorer. What happens if you use Window's Explorer to simply drag the clip from the SD card to the hard drive?

Are you using hacked firmware? This does not seem to make sense to me.

Hacked F/W for what.. the cameras? Didn't know there was any, but no, it's the same f/w as when I received the cameras.
