VP14 Build 252 crashes when applying Stabilation

GeoffreyDean33 wrote on 5/15/2018, 12:12 PM

I've tried applying Media Effect Stabilization to a couple different clips and the program crashes. After selecting an option like medium stabilization, it starts to work and after a minute or two, the program crashes. Anything I can try to fix?

Some kinds of footage (4K?) can have problems with the old internal stabilizer. Try a forum search; lots has been written. If you want specifics, you need to provide specifics :) See the FAQ/IMPORTANT POST at top section of forum front page.

Thanks. Got it. Footage from a Panasonic GH5s

MPEG-4
143 Mb/s
3840x 2160 16:9 at 59.940 FPS
AVC

On a 1920x1080 24p 23.967 timeline

The two clips that need a little stabilizing are shots from my gimbal. When I shoot on the gimbal, I go 60p then slow down 40%. I wonder if that's the issue.

I just now got one to stabilize by changing it back to 100% speed, then stabilizing. But the other clip isn't slowed and still crashes when I apply stabilize. I will do a search like you suggest. Also, I have VP15 so I may try it in the newer version, then rendering, then putting back in my VP14 timeline.

The render/replace strategy may work. Also, you could try the free Hitfilm express. It has a tracker/stabilizer, and there is a workflow (slightly cumbersome) where you can integrate the hitfilm project on your timeline. Other wise, you have paid plug-ins from Mercalli, Boris fx, and Newblue (order of preference IMHO.)

I just bought Go Daddy 4. It seems to work OK. Thanks all.

LOL. FYI, ProDad Mercalli v4 (I am assuming you will use the Vegas plug-in) is very good, but a little "twitchy." It doesn't crash, but sometimes it wants to re-analyse A LOT. It is best to keep project-media frame rates matched and a render/replace workflow may be necessary, YMMV.
