VP19 DV capture VIDCAP60 preview black while recording - but records!

Hello, I'm using vegas (pro 19) to capture some hi8 tapes again and this time I got everything set up and everything works (even camera control) and it records audio/video but when I press record the preview turns black and I don't see nor hear anything. The file is created successfully and everything but I don't get to see what I'm recording - which is half the magic! When I do the "smart video preview" option it says "preview suspended during capture" and shows nothing. Any tips? I already tried disabling hardware acceleration in vegas pro 19.

Note I am using windows 10 default drivers for my 1394 pcie card. The windows drivers crash my pc when I installed them. I have not tried the manual install of them yet for fear of the same.

The same problem in this thread has a solution that only works when the window is being put half on one screen and half on another and it only plays while in this position, and when I move it to one screen only it freezes. The video only starts and plays when displayed on two screens at a time, half one one and half one the other https://www.vegascreativesoftware.info/us/forum/preview-fail-on-vidcap60-exe-using-nvidia--122951/ Also, when I save while it is recording and previewing I get an error but things still save. If I do this and have it preview correctly with this trick and move it to one screen and save, there's no error.

So the best I can do right now is have audio preview enabled, mute that when I want with volume mixer in windows, and have the physical screen open on the camcorder and view it when I want to when recording on the PC.

I just got it to work somehow after the camera was disconnected (and froze the camera) when I launched a game and have that game minimized. No clue but I can view it while recording now, at least for now. And then later when I ALT TABbed back in it's black again.

EDIT: I fixed it by DDU all nvidia drivers and rebooting and reinstalling the latest driver.
