VP22 Install not working

GA-ArtOfCode wrote on 2/19/2025, 2:52 PM

Hi, I installed Vegas Pro 22 Suite today. All products confirmed successful but Vegas does not launch. Removing and reinstalling didn't fix it. I still have v19 installed and it is working. I install programs on my D: drive, but I also tried installing v22 on C: without success. I am running Windows 10 with 48G and an RTX 3060 with 12G.

Did you opt to create the desktop shortcut? Some people miss that and continuously reinstall the software (the exe is also under c:\program files)

Otherwise where does the launch fail?

Everything installed without any errors. But clicking the shortcut or the .exe just causes the hourglass to appear for a couple seconds. The splash screen never comes up.

I did get it installed on my Windows 11 laptop with no issues and it runs great. But I really want to run it on my desktop rig. That machine still has Vegas 19 on it along with residue from a lot of of previous versions that Windows thinks are still installed, even though they were uninstalled and all the files are gone. I may try uninstalling Vegas 19 (once I get used to v22 on the laptop) and try installing again. Or bite the bullet and do a clean install of Windows 11 on my workstation.

Perhaps do a support ticket and see if they have ideas for what's blocking it from opening.

I haven't had this problem in two years since Vegas 20 but you can try this. i.e. use task manager to check the background processes for an instances of Vegas & cancel them.

The behaviour described sounds much like what I experienced some years ago with Vegas Pro and some other programs including MS's Outlook - the programs just wouldn't open. The cause was that the programs were still lurking in Windows background processes so maybe Windows thought the programs were already open. The solution was to open the Task Manager (via Ctrl-Alt-Del) and the program would inevitably be listed under 'Background Processes' - there might even be several listings. All that was needed to do was to highlight the program in Background Process and hit 'End Tasl' in the header. After clearing all instances of the program (e.g. Vegas Pro) in the Task Manager, Vegas Pro would then open as expected from the desktop or taskbar icons.

This still happens occasionally in Windows 11 but nowhere near as often as it did in Windows 10.

It would be worth checking if this could the issue.

Edit: emendegw got there first with that suggestion.

Thanks for the advice. I checked Task Manager for background processes and didn't see anything about Vegas. And I would think a reboot, which I did, would end them anyway. As mentioned, when I try to launch it I get an hourglass for about 2 seconds, I don't see anything flash up under Apps in Task Manager.

There should be some sort of error message and there should be a log detailing what's happening. But I'm not seeing anything. I opened a support ticket.
