VP8 -- Move Markes w/Events = Possible?

Soniclight wrote on 9/22/2007, 8:10 PM
in one project, I need to push everything forward by let's say, 15 seconds and with marker 1 at 000.

Ctrl-A then moving with envelopes locked to events works fine. But none of the markers move with the rest. (I.e. marker 1 is still at 000 as are all the others in their pre-move positions).

Seems like a reasonable editing function. Am I asking too much of Vegas -- or is there a trick to this?
Found nuttin' in the Help files.

Thanks.

ripple edit- all tracks, markers, etc.

That'll work. :)

On the timeline, markers aren't wedded to events unless you're performing a ripple edit as HappyFr. mentions.
If you place Markers on media in the Trimmer, the markers stay with the event, regardless of what additional/unique markers may be with the event on the timeline.

You'll probably never know how much you just helped me!
This is one Vegas thingy that's driven me nuts over the years, guess now I'll have to join Grazie in the Land Of The Trimmer.

Hm, come to think of it, we both could be a bit 'trimmer' :)

LOL :-)

Regions work the same way. However, you cannot place Command Markers in the Trimmer.
BTW, I'm *really* surprised no one has yet commented on the new Trimmer preview feature/function.
Right click the Trimmer, choose "Show Video in Preview Window." (this will uncheck the box.) Now frames in the trimmer will NOT display in the Preview window but _will be_ animated in the Trimmer window. This allows Vegas to effectively have a Source window that so many folks seem to want. Enlarge the Trimmer window to the same size as the Preview window...
It doesn't Play, it scrubs using the cursor (no JKL, because this keeps the timeline as focus rather than switching back and forth).

if only it animated while playing then I wouldn't need it in the preview window. Oh well. :)

Forgot to mention: make sure you turn ripple edit *OFF* when you're done with it. It's easy to leave it on & move stuff around only to find out you FUBAR'ed the whole project because you forgot to turn it off.

Long day, so pardon if I may seem dense in understanding the advice given:

A) Markers -- Trimmer or No-Go

Unless markers are created or added in Trimmer, the won't "travel with the band" so to speak as per example.

B) To Ripple or Not to Ripple, That Is...:

I uncheck AutoRipple because it drives me nuts when I move or remove an event and all the others ahead of it fil the vacuum. Useful in certain cases, not in others. Otherwise, I have to lock each event following the one I delete or move so they don't play musical chairs...

Short version: How should I set it up for said example so that the Maker groupies come along with the band?. :)
Please be specific, for as I said, I'm feeling pretty dum-ah, dense right now...

Tisk, tisk.
Been a hot topic here at least. I think all the usual suspects starting with Grazie and then me have had something to say about it.

Here's one from moi:

And further back I know there's more from Grazie as well, heck I think we even had a Skype session over it.

Manual ripple. Get friendly with it 'cause it's super helpful and won't drive you nuts like Auto.

There are three keyboard shortcuts, and one or two of them will also ripple the markers on the timeline.

Thanks, Bob. The conversation about it was really helpful, especially the internal pref that gives you a single frame display in the trimmer. Very similar to a source monitor.

Tried what was being said about an overwrite mode. Yes, it'd be helpful.

I said it before and I'll reiterate it here too: I would love to have a Split or Double Window compare, to be able to use the Alt and Ctrl drag split-screen view that the main Timeine has, but this WITH the Trimmer and the Main Timeline working in unison/collaboration. It is ALL so tantalizingly near, I can smell it!

Actually I'm not really fuzzed as to how this IS displayed, configured, keystroked and finally executed by Madison - so long as it happens. Up to now it is as if they have done the hard part and not quite tipped over the edge? Yeah?

. . and yes, we have spoken at length on the Preview OFF option as being neat option - but working with the inter "prefs" is a wee bit under the bonnet - yeah?

Grazie

I'm always quite happy to go under the bonnet, but it seems like if it's only in the internal prefs then Madison decided not to actually go with it. Maybe next year.

After trying out the new options for the trimmer, I decided I was content with it the way it is. But I do think the overwrite mode would be more worth while than a source display. Both would be good If I could have a source display and the timeline-like display in a trimmer.

But we're getting off topic, aren't we?

Yes, Vegas need both… and more solid editing features like: track lock button, NO ridiculous stretched preview when Slip/Slip-trim/Trim-adjacent/Slide operations, In & Out point preview of adjacent event for simple cut editing…

Btw, I updated my Overwrite Script for VP8.
