VP8 & Noise Reduction...

kentwolf wrote on 9/21/2007, 5:37 PM
Has anyone else noticed that, when using the Noise Reduction plug-in on an audio event in VP8, the Keep residual input does not seem to function as it normally does. You simply hear *all* the sound, not just what is actually being removed..

I am not even real sure that any noise is being removed.

Is anyone else seeing this?

Using Vegas Pro 8, Sound Forge 9, and the NR pluin that was installed, I believe some updated version.

Thanks.

If you have SF, why in the world use NR in Vegas?
Or have I missed something?

In Vegas, I do an event right-click Open Copy in SF.

because it's something simple & you don't want to re-render (track based FX).

Ya' know..it just started working (the residual inout function).

I swear it didn't work before and I have a LOT of time using the plug-in, so I know how it's supposed to work.

It wasn't working...now it is.

Oh well...beats the alternative. :)

Thanks.

Followup...

I also think the reason I questioned if any noise was being removed was because I did a really good job at seperating/segregating the sound I wanted from the background by physically recording the sound really close (with my Zoom H4) to the source. This may be the best job I've ever done at that. :) Add that to a noise gate and all works very well.

Thanks.

If you're opening a copy in SF then it's more likely to be a SF issue.
I've had exactly what you're describing happening in SF9 and that's before V8 existed. The issue has since gone away and I think it might be because I setup SF9 to use the ASIO drivers instead of the MS Sound Mapper.

Thanks, Farss:

Yeah, the issue just went away. I do know that I am set up for Sound Mapper...but I just don't know why this happened.

Thanks again.
