VP8: Scrolling credits & interlace

Hi,

Is there a way (other than trial and error) to syncronize the credit roll scroll speed to the speed of the interlaced line crawl? Some professional text generators have this option. I have seen this on many BBC programmes, where the scrolling text stays "locked" to the line crawl...

I have a srcolling credit (generated with the old textgen) that just happens to be of such a length that is scrolls upwards at about the same speed as the line crawl (PAL 50i). When these speeds are not the same, then you can see some nasty looking "modulation" on the text, since it moves up at slightly slower of faster as the interlace line crawl.

I have tried to sync the scroll speed (by manually adjusting) but it is really a tedious job. And you loose your setting if you do any slight change to your credit roll...

Can this be done in a static text by animating it from bottom to top. Probably there are no tools to sync the movement to the crawl speed in any of the scrolling text options?

Someone must have stumbled over this - before me?! It just happens that many of my scrolling credits just are close to the line crawl speed... Is this just something you have to tweak by trial and error, hoping not to die before boredom?

As you've figured out, this is a very real issue. Most of the NLE software I've used doesn't have any way to sync credit rolls to get around the problem. This includes Vegas. It's just trial and error.

Adam Wilt has more to say on the subject here:

Scroll down about half way to the section entitled, "Character Generators & Titling"

I work a lot with text. the type face and point size make a difference, try increase point size by a fraction
Things to check reduce interlace flicker is on for 50i and reverse field order can also help, I prefer to render progressive to avoid this but my stuff is live

The interpolation for tricky stuff where you have no option of type etc and you are cutting to disc I rerender the with t mpeg replication animation and no problem
Why this works I have no idea

Thank's for your replies.

It seems the problem is much deeper than I thought...

Would it be possible to write a script that could modify the credit roll in such a way that the speed is a multiple of the line crawl frequency? In other words, does Vegas provide such possibilities within the scripting limits?

It would be handy to have such a scripted tool, assuming this is never goin to be a "built in" feature...
