VP8b (Unavailable?) vs. VP8c (Unstable)?

Soniclight wrote on 1/2/2009, 11:20 PM
I recently realized I haven't updated VP8 at all since I bought it. I did download "c" a while back, but due to what seems like numerous postings on instability, I haven't installed it.

So I've looked for a VP8b, but t'is nowhere to be found at Sony -- only the latter is available from updates page. (Oh, sure one can find crack versions, but aside from potential corruptions, that's against my ethics anyway).

BTW, so you don't have to check my system specs:
--- Pentium D, WinXP Home, plenty of memory (more than 32-bit XP can give to Vegas).

So:

A)

a. had no problems at all with it. then again, i'm not pushing it that hard.

b. funny - i recall there was a sony site that had ALL releases / versions listed.

anyway, give .c a whirl.

btw, i always make my material vegas friendly whenever possible.... probably why i have no problems.

have a good new year

http://www.sonycreativesoftware.com/forums/ShowMessage.asp?ForumID=4&MessageID=537337Leslie? I found this "Forum" thread with a "SONY" archive link - But no Vegas 8b/c options - interesting?[/link]

Grazie?

1) I've downloaded a copy of just about every release since V4. You never know when you might need it.

2) As far as I know V8.0c should be more stable than V8.0b. Things were changed under the hood in c. Only reason I'm staying with b is because I don't have any really bad issues with it and c seems to think all HDV has 4 audio channels and hence takes longer to build the peak files.

As you seem to already have a working install of a version of Vegas there's no reason not to install V8.0c and see how it goes for you. One of my PCs has 4,5,6 and 7 installed. You can always just ignore your V8.0c install if you don't like it.

Grazie, that thread linked to the archive and not the current releases.

8c is stable for me. 8b wasn't.

"8c is stable for me. 8b wasn't."

I see it the same way. I have had absolutely no issues what so ever with 8c. It has performed flawlessly with hdv (m2t) . And I USED to have to resize my jpeg stills in doing slide shows.... I don't even have to do that anymore. I just don't crash the way I used to... nor do I see the dreaded black frame issue.

Now having said that, I did recently have to do some avchd work and that's when I saw some crashing. I eventually had to move the project over to 8.1 which seems to be more stable with avchd.

The only problem I have with 8c is that sometimes after I do a render Vegas is locked up. The render dialog box responds to the open or cancel commands but the main program stops responding. This could be Vegas and then again it could be Vista. Down on the lower left of the Vegas session is the green bar and it looks like it is stuck on build peaks (no activity as typically it states 100%). I have left it for hours and it never comes back.

OK, thanks for all replies and especially for the nifty archives directory page. I probably would have never found that. As far as versions, I'll download the ones I don't have and install later.

Probably once I've learned to master my soon-to-arrive Canon HV30.

grazie....

that's the one i remembered. and yes, it is strange just stopping at 8.

maybe it's like old cars - they have to be a certain age before they become 'vintage'? ;-)

If you want to watch 8.0c go up in a puff of smoke, just try loading any mpeg stream with Dolby Digital audio... POOOOFFFFF!
