VSM features and capabilities

Hi,
I am using an animation program COOL3D PS (would love to use a VEGAS VM version if there was one but there isn't), where there is some user feedback on using video overlays
Quote:
To have overlay video you must save the video in 32bit RGB data type. If the video is saved in 32bit RGB data type, the video background will become transparent and the video will be an overlay video. If your video editor cannot support 32bit data type transparent background video (which means it does not support to edit overlay video), then the background will become black color only.

I tried loading a 32 bit RGB file per say as above, loaded into VSM's timeline and basically got a black background as opposed to a transparent one.
I worked round the problem by chromakeying the black and it became transparent, but I had to make sure that I had no black in my animation.

Does it mean VSM does not support an video overlay?
I tried checking the product specifications, but it does not really say would it or would it no support 32 bit RGB files

I also noticed in "What's New" between SVM 3.0X and VSM 4.0X

Audio Restoration tools to remove clicks, pops and other noise from your audio for a high-quality soundtrack.
Assignable Still Image Duration lets you set the length of time a still image or groups of stills appear in your project in one easy step. Set the still duration from under 1 second to 60 seconds

Does the audio restoration tools fall under the Audio FX?? Cause I presume it is a sound editor and I cannot find any sound editor to load (under audio preferences).

Has anyone tried "Assignable Still IMage Duration", falls under Video FX or Transistions?? I can't seem to find it?
My work around is to reach the location of the event, save a copy of the frame, split the event, insert the save frame between the splitted items and stretch to how long I want to it. VSM does it with a 'click' only?? Can't seem to find it.

Hoping to hear from others who have tried it out

Hope these answers help.

1. You have to select the alpha channel for your video. right-click the event and go to media properties - alpha channel - select - straight (unmatted)
your alpha channel will then show up.

2. The audio restoration tools can be found in the the Audio FX plugin at the audio track

3. Assignable Still IMage Duration - go to Options - Preferences - Video Tab - new still image length.

Thanks Thanks a lot
(1) and (2) tried and understood applications and usage

(3) Does it mean I only insert a pause of certain frames\seconds at the downloading of the DV clip (from the camcorder?).
Do not find this particular feature to be very useful then. Though it would be sometime done on the timeline and not on video capture.

Thanks again for the "pointing" out to me.
Sometimes, I search high and low for something that is totally under my nose. *Smile*

It's to specify the duration of still image event which you add to the timeline.

Try searching the MovieStudio help file...works for me. :-)

happy editing!
