VTR for capturing DV??

Hello all,

I'm just wanting to confrim some information I had to help a friend out that I heard awhile ago in these forums( i think). He has a GL1, if he captures his GL1 DV tape in a cheaper MiniDV cam to the PC, the quality is the same because the VTR has nothing to do with what the GL1 captured to tape... is this correct?? In other words, it does not matter what VTR you use to capture the tape from as long as the tape was shot on the better camera... please enlighten me (and tell me I am right! =P)

thanks,

Brian

There will be NO quality difference. The difference in quality between cameras is based on the OPTICS and functions of the camera. Once on tape, the quality will not change no matter how what machine plays it back.

I wish someone would make one for under $500, seems like if you can get a camera for that price, they should be able to make a Mini-DV VTR for that price.

When considering a sub $1,000.00 VTR, I looked at this machine too. It seems like a good idea, but I have to confess that I have always been wary of dual tape machines in general. It's been my experience that getting two tape head and transport systems for the price of one, usually means you're getting two poor quality tape machines in one chassis. I may be wrong about this particular unit, but I've seen this problem in dual DATs, VHS recorders and cassette players. Just my two cents.

Thanks,

Shawn
