VV 3.0 - Does it fix the WDM problems in Win2k?

Ethernetguru wrote on 11/20/2001, 9:16 AM
Hello, before I plunk down $99 for this upgrade, I want to know if it will fix the WDM problems that VV2.0 had with Windows 2000. I've got a MidiMan Delta 1010 that has been useless ever since we went to Vegas Video. All because Vegas wasn't built for the Windows 2000 spec. Any one have the Beta succesfully running with a multi-channel sound card? Or any information from Sonic Foundry? Thanks!

That was fixed months ago when M-Audio released the latest Delta WDM driver. Here it is:

It works. All 10 Inputs/Outputs.

Hope that helps.

Hmmmm... NO mention of WDM in the Vegas 3.0 manual, does it work ok for MOTU 2408 in W2000?

What! No Bus automation? Can this be? Did I miss it in the manual? To not be able to automate a sub-mix (bus) is way behind the times. Is there a work-around?

Help me out... why use the bus sends in a track? Is this new in 3.0 . I'm a little dense, did I just miss this functionality in 2.0? or is it new?

go back and do a search on the midiman issue, you will find all sorts of fun things.
For ONCE this was NOT SF's fault it was clearly midiman.

There is no such thing as the "Win2000" spec.

Vegas supports Wave drivers. Windows emulates Wave drivers for hardware that supplies WDM drivers.

There is a bug in Win2000 (and WinME) that prevent more than 10 audio devices from being exposed.

One version of the Delta 1010 drivers exposed a single WDM "pin" to the OS. The causes Windows to only expose a single multichannel Wave devices. Since Vegas works only with stereo pair wave devices, Vegas exposed only a singe wave port for the 1010.

The latest drivers for the 1010 expose multiple "pins" so each stereo pair is exposed as a seperate port and Vegas can talk to each of the pairs. (This assumes that you have no more than 10 stereo WDM devices installed on your system. If you do, you will be limited by Windows to the 10 device WDM Emulated Wave devices.)

If you are asking whether we support WDM Kernel Streaming, the answer is no. Vegas Audio 3.0 will be support an advanced I/O model, but there are no details on this right now.

quote SonicPCH: There is a bug in Win2000 (and WinME) that prevent more than 10 audio devices from being exposed.

Does this bug extend to Windows XP ?

Does this mean that if I add a second Delta 1010, Win 2000 and XP (even with the newest drivers) will still only be able to see 10 Ins and outs?
