VV 3 crashes & hangs XP at launch

Lately I've been having issues with getting VV3 to run, I'm hoping someone can help me out.

I rebuilt my machine about a month ago (XP Home) and didn't get around to reinstalling VV3 until yesterday. Upon first launch of VV3, the splash screen would appear and after some disk activity the mouse cursor would dissapear and the machine would hang. Ctrl-alt-del would'nt even brnig up task man. After the reboot, Windows came up with a message saying my Radeon 8500 AIW was the cause of the error. I'm using the very latest drivers from ATI's site, and come to think of it, this is the first time I've tried running VV3 since installing the new drivers. Other than that, the only other hardware change I've had is switching to a Microsoft USB optical mouse.

Since I just rebuilt my machine anyway, I thought I'd do it one more time in case there was anything else that may have contributed to this error. Unfortunately I still can't get VV3 to run, even with a clean install and base drivers loaded.

My conclusion so far is that there must be something with the latest Radeon drivers that's causing this to happen. My next attempt will be to roll-back to the first boot after the install and install VV3 before installing my Radeon drivers to see if that fixes it.

If anyone has any helpful suggestions on what else may be causing this, please let me know.

Thanks, Brad

I don't have the Radeon but I've seen a bunch on the latest drivers being a problem. Did you try a search on "Radeon" on this forum?

Good luck.

Revert to the ATI catalyst 2.1 drivers and you should be fine. The ATI catalyst 2.2 drivers (new) break Vegas and apparently some other non-SF apps as well. ATI is aware of this.

My Radeon won't even work with Catalyst 2.2

I had Trouble with these drivers also. I posted over at the Creative Cow Vegas forum. I went back to a previous Catalyst version and Vegas works again. Unfortunately I can't get the ATI control panel to work properly. Specifically when I try to click on the OpenGL settings tab it gives me an error. I probably have something left from the later drivers that is interfering.
I did notice that ATI mentions that their newest drivers are optimized for WINXP service pack 1. I had nothing but problems with these new drivers on WIN XP Pro. My Creative Audigy environmental presets (like a favorites list lets me choose living room or auditorium etc.. for reverb) would not display after installing the Latest Catalyst ATI drivers for my Radeon. I had to reinstall the Creative software (and then reapply a patch etc...) it finally came back even with the new drivers but I had to waste a lot of time. Also reinstalling Vegas and reapplying the C patch. What a pain.
Anyway I hope they fix these drivers. I would like to cleanly remove all the ATI stuff and then reinstall so I don't have any conflicts.
Hope this helps someone, at least it is nice to know I am not crazy and that others are having the same problem. The standard reply from ATI support is the usual line of " have you read our FAQ?, gosh, it must be your configuration"...If it weren't for forums we would never know the truth.
