When I try to capture with the Dazzle 80 USB in XP, it locks up!

USB is Via and all current drivers are installed with the USB filter patch.
All current Dazzle drivers are installed and the XP patch is installed for that.

It works fine in Win ME, its just that I can record more that 4 gigs b/c its a fat32 drive, or ME dont see it.

Any help wold be nice.

This doesnt seem to be a problem with Vegas Video, Perhaps only the VIA Chipset.

If anyone have a VIA chipset and the Video capture works fine with USB, please let me know.

Any suggestions would be appreciated

Typically, USB 1.0 does not have a fast enough transfer rate for video. Consequently, you can get some dropped frames. Have you tried other capture apps like VirtualDub?

Well you are right about the dropped frames.

It works fime in ME, its just that ME dosent support the NTFS file system so that I can record more than 4 gigs of video, thats about 8 mins.

This is the only reason that I am trying to get it to work in XP.

Is there a add in card that is USB 2.0, or is it the motherboard?

Not all system boards have USB 2.0 compliant ports, yet. If you haven't pruchased your system lately, I would say your onboard USB ports are 1.0. Consult with your system vendor to be sure. Most likely you would need to purchase an addon card. SIIG makes a good one. That still might not help you if your Dazzle 80 is not USB 2.0 as well. You can only get the higher speed if both the device and the controller are 2.0.

If you just bought the Dazzle 80, I would return it and spend the extra money on a Canopus ADVC-100. You may have heard about it on this forum, it converts analog video to Digital. You will also need a firewire card. Both of them together would cost you less than $350.

What are you using the Dazzle for, capturing analog video from a VCR or analog camcorder? If you have a digital camcorder, you would not need the Dazzle or Canopus, just a firewire card. Some digital camcorders even have an analog passthru to convert analog to digital.

I am capturing from a VCR.

When I bought the dazzle I didnt know that usb couldnt handle the video, I get about 500 -1000 frames droped every minute. Doesnt seem to loose that much video quallity. I will have to look into that Firewire stuff. I am just getting into this video editing stuff.

Thanks for your help. If you could maybe post the links to where I could find the products you talked about.

Thanks,

The Canopus ADVC-100 can be found at http://www.canopus.com/ppm_advc100.htm, but I would search the net for the best price.

Any OHCI 1394 compliant firewire card will do. I've heard little problems with SIIG products. Pick one that suits your needs and try to find it somewhere at a lower price as well.
