Hey David, thanks for the information. I tried what you told me and that did not work. Any other suggestions? Have you had this problem before? I have Acid installed on my system also.n I did a defrag over night and a scandisk that did not help either. Thanks in advance for any other information.

Not a pro at this but usually these problems are operating system related
or not enough hard drive space. Try to remember what transpired prior to the
first original problem. New app. installed? New download? Does the OS have
all the latest updates? There were many issues with SP-1 with XP and SP-3
with Win2K. If your computer is real fast with Win2K files will be lost on
shutdown if SP-3 is not installed. Also with raid setups (internal) files
get lost eventually. Do you have Dual processors? There are issues with that.
There are umpteen million possibilities . Do you have all the latest drivers
installed including the motherboard? Best bet is you roached out some files
in the operating system. Vegas performs like the rock of Gibralter even with
multiple openings. If you downloaded Vegas you might have picked up a glitch.
I could go on forever with possibilities but you have to fix the problem
or your guru buddy if you have one. Also you must list all your specs before
we can make any generalized recommendations.

The strange thing is I have been using VV3 for the last few months with no problem. I have not changed any hardware or installed any new software. I do not go on the internet with that particular machine. Here are some specs of the machine:
AMD 1400MHz Cpu
1GB PC 133 RAM
40GB 7200rpm HDD
3d Labs 32Mb video card
Creative Labs Platinum card
LG Goldstar 48x24x48 CDRW
1394 video capture card
Win2000 Pro SP1

I have not been able to use the program all week. THe only thing different that i did was for the first time last week i used the video capture card. It worked fine, captured a bunch of video, filled up the hard drive to capacity got a warning and uninstalled a few programs no longer used, which opened about 2.4GB on the harddrive. You are correct in saying that VV performs very well that is why I'm baffled to what could be messing up the program. I was thinking of wiping the drive and reinstalling Win2k but I am trying to avoid that because i have quite a bit of audio and video that i have not produced. Two things bother me about your setup----one hard drive and no SP-3
upgrade. The SP-3 upgrade corrected a problem of Win2k shutting down
too fast and losing files. (Word of mouth by microsoft tech). Its a really
good idea to have the Operating System on one drive and capture to another.
Although with the fast drives of today it should work OK. I personally
don't like to fill up a hard drive unless it is strictly for capture. If I
would have filled up a hard drive with the operating system on the same drive
I would have crapped my pants. Contrary to what "Bill" says Win2k does not like
complications especially during install. It will blue screen you for too
many IRQ solutions and wrong card drivers. That is why I install one card at a time
during install. I believe you lost some files
when this occurred and also maybe when you deleted the excess programs
as Win2k had no room to operate even with 1gig of ram. You might try the
Win2k repair function after pressing F8 on post up. Keep in mind I might be
in left field on these recommendations but that is what I would do.

""error 2359- unable to create the target file- file may be in use." is a windows installer error... it can be related to file permissions.

It might be that the uninstall of one of those other apps took part of the installer with it. You might try seeing if the MS installer is working right, and check the MS KB for info on error 2359.

Hello JJ, thanks again for the reply. I beleive you may be correct in saying I need another HDD. I noticed it started messing up when the drive filled to capacity. So far every finger is pointing at that being the culprit. I'm wondering if a fresh reinstall of win2k would be the best thing to do; after I transfer my current projects to a new drive?! Being new to VV let me ask what could possibly be a silly question. Is capturing to a seperate HDD suggested and why if I may ask? Would I not be wasting some 36GB's or so by not utilizing the drive that has the OS on it? This forum has been very helpful!! Thanks JJ!!
