Have you changed/reinstalled your scanner or digital camera driver software recently? Vegas attempts to initialize any installed TWAIN devices on startup, and if it has trouble with that process it will often hang on the splash screen. Try starting it again and do a Ctrl-Alt-Del about 5 seconds after the splash screen appears. If you see a message about being unable to initialize TWAIN drivers, close that message box and then Vegas should continue to load.

I had to do this with our Vegas installation at church until i uninstalled and reinstalled the scanner software.

Let me guess ATI Graphics Card? check out

ATI Catalyst Driver Version 2

Their Driver version 2 had a significant error causing your exact problem. The latest update resolves that issue.

Thanks for the suggestion but I can't even get the Ctrl-Alt-Del to work. I have tried right after the splash appears, and after several seconds. My computer is still locked.

However, I did have a problem with my scanner a little while ago and I have uninstalled and reinstalled the software. That was a week or so ago.

Any other suggestions please,
Sid

what changed on your system between the time Vegas worked and now? Did you maybe install some new directx audio plug-in?

THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU!

I downloaded the 2.03 driver, installed it and VV3 is back in business. What a great community this is.

Many thanks
Sid

Boot into safe mode and check for duplicate drivers. If there are any delete them and restart.
