That's my beef also. I simply don't understand why Sonic Foundry obviously spent many hours putting together a first rate manual using some decent desktop publishing application then don't follow through and offer a PROFESSIONALLY PRINTED manual.

I've seen people say, well just print it out yourself and others paid $40 or more to take it to some local print shop. Neither a very 'professional' option in my opinion. PDF files are fine for those just browsing a few pages. For those of us that like to curl up with a REAL manual there simply isn't any substitute.

Hint: Maybe Sonic Foundry should conduct a poll on their web site and see how many would pay extra for a full, professionally printed manual.

Maybe I'm just spoiled. I still got my copy of version 2 of the DOS manual. Hundreds of printed pages on high quality paper and came in a three ring binder.

I wouldn't even mind printing my own copy it just that it takes so dang long printing PDF pages on an inkjet printer. If they had a Word or Pagemaker version that would print text and only have to slow down on the graphics that would be nice. Or, as you say, it would be nice to be able to pay extra and order a copy printed already. Oh well.

You're right guys. Even the "Quick Start Manual" I got with the program is not right: actual numbers on the pages don't match with those in the table of contents (two whole chapters have been inverted!!!)
Took me forever to print the "real" manual from PDF... 363 pages... Program seems really great but for manuals, this is another story. No surprise this forum is SO usefull and it's a great thing so many people participate for the answers cause otherwise we'd sometimes be in deep...

its simple, set your printer to print all the Odd page numbers first, then turn it over and print the even numbers. Then drop it into Staples or Office world and get them to put a binder on the edge, voila! mines been invalubal

I am forced to agree with the majority. I cannot understand why a printed manual is not available in bound and printed form. It would certainly take a while to print out and access during a project is annoying at best. Is a printed manual in the future for VV?

nah, skip the printed manual SF. most people never even look at the manual in my experience. of course they SHOULD because there's always good useful info in there, but it's a waste of paper to provide a printed manual to everyone when only a few will use it. especially when it's so easy to have it printed, or print it yourself. (i agree that Acrobat is a terrible format to try to read on screen... it's meant to be printed)

if you are _that_ attached to having a printed manual, i'm sure you'll take pride in having it printed professionally with your favorite paper at just the size you want it.

the environmentally conscious among us appreciate your decision SF. waste reduction is the most important part of conservation.
