VV3 MPEG-2 codec has taken over my PC

I know this may sound strange but before installing VV3 I was able to cut my MPEG-2 movies using TMPGEnc. And when playing them in Windows Media, I was able to move to any scene by scrolling along the 'seek' line.
After installing VV3 I have lost all those functions and now all my SVCD's that I encode using TMPGenc have noticeable quality loss (blocky, ghosts, grainy).

I unistalled VV3 and everything is back to normal. So I'm thinking it has something to do with the MainConcept MPEG-2 codec.

Is there any way to remove this codec from VV3 as I only want to render my videos using uncompressed avi and then encode it using TMPGEnc, as this is by far the best MPEG-2 encoder.

Ok, I've found a way around not having MainConcept as the default Codec in Media Player for Mpeg-2 playback.

Rename these 2 files in your Sonic Foundry Folder (normally located here:
D:\Program Files\Sonic Foundry\Shared Plug-Ins\File Formats\MCMPEG)
mcdsmpeg.ax
mcspmpeg.ax

eg. I added a -1 to the end like so: mcspmpeg.ax-1

And that's it!. (It took me a few hours to discover this solution)

Don't ask me what these files do, but I can tell you that I was still able to render to MPEG2 in VV3 and recieved no errors or change in quality.

To check that MainConcept is no longer your default codec in Media Player, open an MPEG2 file in MP and select file >> Properties and in the General Tab you will see displayed the current Audio & Video codecs used.

If anyone can shed some light on what these two files do and how they would affect MPEG2 rendering that would be great for the benefit of other members.
I prefer to render my files uncompressed avi and then encode using TMPGEnc for SVCD work so I'm not to bothered.

I hope this has been of some use.
