VV3 responds slowly if switched back from other windows

Hi everyone!
When I work with VV3, the program hangs for almost 30 seconds if I switch to another program window or simply minimize and then maximise it again. This happens even if open VV3's help window and switch back to VV3. Any suggestions to solve this problem?

The problem I face is unique to VV3 and I have no similar performance issues with any other programs.

Thanks in advance...

Alex

You're not alone; we all see this happening. My guess is that when Vegas receives focus again it regenerates and scans the media pool and the timeline (presumably to make sure the display is drawn correctly?) When you have large projects the delay can be very long.

Thanks for the reply...You are right. When I tried after reading your post, I noticed the duration of the delay is relative to the size of the project. I guess I can live with that problem...
Again, thanks for your help...You saved me from countless hours of agony trying to figure out whether I had done something wrong with my setup...
cheers!

It is also due to your relatively "slow" processor. The lag is greatly reduced with faster CPU times.

I had this too. Just yesterday I found this switch on the GENERAL Preferences TAB called: 'Close media files when not the active application'. Due to long rendering since, I have not had much chance to see the difference when unchecked.

Can anyone confirm this will help this issue?

Be aware of the stated purpose from the VV3 Online Help: 'When this option is checked, files can be edited in external editors (audio, mage, etc.) while they are contained in events in Vegas.'

Thanks,
Tony

Yup, that's what that switch does. If you're not needing to edit the media files when you switch away from Vegas, you can turn off the closing/opening on deactivate/activate. You can also make it do the same thing by having it playing (even in a short loop) or rendering when you switch away.
