vv3a audio sync problems after rendering

bulldog101 wrote on 3/9/2002, 12:49 PM
Hi all, I am trying to render a rather long movie about 1hr and 45 min.
It consists of 3 clips 1=45 sec. 1= 1hr 4 min 1=45 min
I've checked the clips for audio sync in win media player and other viewers and
they are in sync. After rendering, the first 2 clips seem to be in sync but in the 3rd clip the video is about 2 seconds ahead of the audio. Can someone straighten me out on this problem.

Software playback of MPEG-2 is extremely unreliable when it comes to a/v sync- many users have noticed this.

Are you burning these files to DVD? If so, are they still out of sync?

Yes I am burning to DVD, and they are still out of sync.
I have noticed that if I render to vcd I dont have the sync problem, I just started
rendering to DVD, finally got a burner.
Thanks for the help.

are the problem files being re-transcoded by your authoring app?

which authoring app?
bulldog101 wrote on 3/11/2002, 2:46 PM
They are being retranscoded before burning, I'm using movie factory to burn with.
But the sync problems there after i've rendered in vv3 before I import into movie factory.
Thanks Barry

You captured as MPEG- are you positive the captured files are in sync?
bulldog101 wrote on 3/11/2002, 3:11 PM
Yes, I've played them in several media players and they are fine,They are even ok
on the timeline in vv3,but after they are rendered in vv3 the sync problem accures. cude it have something to do with resampling the audio from 44100 to 48000.
SonyEPM wrote on 3/11/2002, 3:30 PM
The sample rate change could possibly be at fault, but aren't the other clips ok after changing from 44.1 to 48?

Is there any chance of using source material that wasn't MPEG to begin with? MPEG is not the greatest source format and you should avoid it if you can.

I've got the parts ordered to build a new dual cpu sys with scsi drives so in the
next week or so I should be able to capture avi clips. I hope that will shorten render times and cure this problem. In the meantime I will try some more tests tonight. But if thats the problem shouldn't it be a problem bringing a rendered mpeg movie back into vv3 for more editing. Or could it have something to do with the codec I'm caturing with, using Matrox mpeg codec and there pcvcr software.
Could you reccomend a deccent capture card or analog to digital converter that want break the bank.
Thanks Barry
