my old 1.2 ghz athlon with 1 gig RAM does 30 second AVI cmmercials to NTSC DVD in about one and a half minutes for the complex ones and about a minute for those that are just two or three shots with titles. It's fast enough to eliminate the need for using our hardware encoder, at least for commercials. For anything more than a couple of minutes I'll stick with real time hardware encoding.

My Athlon 1800 with SDRam (20% speed drop from DDR) will do a rendered avi file at about twice the length of the clip. (That's not exact but generally it's what I expect)

thanks you guys. I'm trying to convince my boss that rendering to MPEG-2 files on an Athlon 2600 with 512MB DDR with Vegas will take less time then on our current Athlon 1ghz with 256MB SDRAM using Premiere and Lygos MPEG encoder.

Yes, I know that it would take less time, but he wanted factual numbers to back it up (all bosses are like that, aren't they? :) )
