VV4 Video Capture & Clip Logging Question

I just read the VV4 white papers to learn about Media Pool Bins, Clip Logging and Search Capabilities. I could not find info on the clip capturing process and at what point you can enter text descriptions about each clip.

I was just about to purchase a third party clip logging software program, when it was suggested to me that VV4 might be able to work like a video logging database.

If you've logged clips with text descriptions and used the search capabilities - could you please comment on the procedure.

You should be able to test all of these with the Vegas demo mode when running Video Capture, which acts as a complete clip database with Thumbnails and complete Details views. You can also Customize the default view to add more fields, in the Clip Explorer.

You can either do clip comments post capture when using DV Scene Detection or when you're logging clips for later Batch Capture.

I downloaded the Demo and have been playing with the clip logging feature. How do you customize the default view and add more fields in the clip explorer?

And, why is it not possible to log clip comments as the video is being captured?
It would be nice to enter the text comments as the video is being watched, rather than memory.

There are two other third party clip logging programs that work as I described.
Maybe this can be passed on to the developers.

No need to pass the info on, we developers are routinely on this board ;)

You can customize the Clip Explorer view by clicking on the Views button in the toolbar and choosing Customize View. Similarly, by right clicking a dead area in the Clip Explorer. You will need to change the View to Details from Thumbnails to see the fields.

On advanced capture to separate files can't the files also be named or moved while the process continues? The path & file name are basic, but reliable, "fields" that work with search tools like PowerDesk and Microsoft "find files" (still haven't tried MS XP version yet -- probably sucks.)

Create your own convention.

Unfortunately there is not yet the technology to sort on these fields properly -- but at least they can be *found* using PD, and dragged around & short-cutted.

If this technology existed, and it is a project of mine going out two years for my startup (NOW NOW! Will need volunteers), it would work as a front-end for ANY (as far as I have seen) media management system. It would be a few HUNDRED times faster & more reliable than bins. Bins, as implemented in V4 and in general, is only good enough for one project, or one part of a bigger project. There is just a limit to arbitrary hierarchical file systems. What I am thinking of will work with hundreds of thousands of clips at a time WITHOUT MOVING OR ORGANIZING (necessarily -- you can) ANY. It's manual logging at light speed, instantly reorganizes or regroups tens of thousands of these virtual categories at will, and works with viewers for clip icons or snips of audio or video, and it's absolutely fool and bomb-proof.

I sure wouldn't mind working with SF and bringing some cash & talent to the table to get this done "to spec." I KNOW what works -- most humbly.
