vv5.0a crashes loading some VV4 projects

Some vv4 projects do not load into vv5. I installed the 5.0a update and still no go.

One of the projects is a new one, mainly photos and a few video clips. Nothing fancy has been done yet as it is still being organized. There are crops of photos, dissolves, and maybe someother transition just to see if things are laying out in the right order. No FX or Graffitti, no spicemasters or other exotic effects or transitions.

On loading, it does the "serious error" message and shuts down. I don't know if the "details" would be of any help. It gets about 1/4 into loading the project before crashing.

I have a couple projects that don't load. Most load and run OK. All projects still load and run OK in vv4.

Any ideas of where to look or what the problem might be? The projects are still good as they still load and play just fine in vv4. What information is needed to track down the problem?

additional info: Win2k, nothing loaded, installed or updated for a month or so. vv5 installed last night, updated to 5.0a. problem exists in either 5.0 or 5.0a. All settings were left at the default after installation. Extras goodies: Spicemaster, Spicemaster-2, Graffitti, Boris FX and plug-n-pack all show under the transitions/FX and all were tested to be sure they worked plus existing projects that used these effects did load and play OK in vv4 and vv5.

There are some threads saying a complete reinstall of all Sony products might be necessary to clear out the registry.

So in what way would the registry be causing a few VV4 projects to crash vv5 when vv5 attempts to load them? It seems to be an incompatibility between vv4 project file and vv5, not a registry issue.
