Have you tried another firewire cable?

Yes I have.

In terms of the PC, it could be the firewire there, a software, or a config problem.

In terms of the VX2000 to VX2000 dub via firewire are you doing it this way?:

Put both units in VCR mode. Put player in Play/Pause mode and other in Rec/Pause mode (connected via 1394) and record unit should see signal from player then just play/record from one to the other.

I put both cameras in vcr mode, and neither could read the other!

I have also had some issues with the 1394 port on my VX2000. I use a Focus HDD recorder and have had it stop recording for no apparent reason. After some troubleshooting It seems to be the plug on the camcorder.
The standard non-locking miniplug is really prone to coming loose or not seating correctly when plugging in.
Try to find a cable that fits more snugly and you might have better success.
I changed cables and it has worked ever since. Of course I always use the same cable now.
Since the cameras don't seem to be talking to each other, it is probably not the PC or drivers.
Lastly...and maybe I should have asked this first. Did it ever work for you? Have you ever gotten the camcorder to successfully talk to your PC? If not, there is always the chance that you somehow have turned off the DV port - I think that is possible in the menu - or it just doesn't work.

I lost a few hours on the phone recently trying to help a lady capture HDV from one of our cameras into a Mac. To cut what was a very long story short, two of the three firewire cables she had were faulty.
Needless to say she lived miles from any town, the job was red hot urgent and by the end of the charade she was historical.

Bob,

She may go down in history, but I think she became "hysterical". :)

As I understand it, you've changed FW cables and tried two different VX2000's. Sure points to either two bad cables or a bad port on the PC.

The cameras will not import into the PC, nor to each other. I have tried several different cables, with no differance. They all use to work, but not anymore.

I also tried the cables with cheaper mini dv cameras and they worked!

While it should not make a difference, try changing the state of AV-DV Out in the VX2000 menu. Also, what version of Vegas are you using?
mvpvideos2007 wrote on 12/16/2008, 7:50 AM
I am using 7.0, but it doesn't work on 6, 5 either!

Check your preferences in Vegas to make sure nothing has changed. Top of the list is something about DV control - I'm not at my editor right now.
