VX2100 won't split clips in Vegas5...

Justin Rank wrote on 3/27/2005, 7:18 PM
I took my VX2100 for a test drive today and recorded about 25 short clips. When I transferred the clips to the laptop, Vegas said I only had one large clip. I haven't changed anything in Vegas and my older JVC and Panasonic GS400 always split my clips where I had stopped and then restarted recording....so I figure it's not Vegas.

Am I missing something on the VX2100 that will split the clips when transferring?

Do you have scene detection enabled in Vegas Capture?
Justin Rank wrote on 3/27/2005, 7:24 PM
Yes, I double-checked it... I looked under media pool>capture video>options>preferences>capture tab>enable DV scene detection

Is this a brand spanking new never before used camera?

In which case... did you set the clock in it yet?

If you didn't... that may be the reason as until you do the timecode is not recorded properly.

I did a quick search and found out that I hadn't set the clock...viola...perfectly working VX2100!

Wow... Good info. I would NEVER have figured that out!

Yep... it took me a while to figure that one out as well :-)

In fact... I think I found the answer in this forum several years ago.

Now here's a funny story about that. We sent a camera out for repair, got it back, tried it out and the boss utters lots of expletives about Sony service as he runs out the door with the thing only to return a few minutes later looking very sheepish, you guessed it, Sony had replaced the battery and not reset the clock. I think his only final comment was "I only wanted them to fix it, not send it back like new".

Cameras should have a default "The clock is not set" warning message, with 2 options - "Set Clock" or "I'd rather have problems later".

I do videotaping for an off-road 4-wheel drive event about once a month. There are three of us with cameras and I get the tapes at the end and edit the final video. One guy has a Canon XL1s, and every time I capture his tapes, I get one long clip. The othe two cameras are VX2000s and capture goes as it should with them. Could it be that he has just never set his clock, or is that just a Sony thing?

I can't be certain... as I've only experienced this with Sony Cameras (all I have ever owned).. but it does seem quite likely.

Setting the clock in ANY camera is required for Vegas to split the clips. Clips are split based on jumps in the DATE/TIME code on the tape. If the clock isn't set, there is no jumps.
