A Sony W64 file is the same as a WAV file but with the 4GB size limitation removed.

Maybe so, but Pro Tools would not open the w64 until I converted it to wav. Thoughts?

.w64 is a file type originally created by Sonic Foundry, and as such can only be opened in the descendants of their software products: Sound Forge, Vegas, ACID, CD Architect, DVD Architect, etc.

The best, fastest, and only way you have to convert them is to open them in one of these programs and save/render to .wav.

Right. When I said "Sony W64 file" I meant "proprietary." Never expected Protools, which is not a Sony product, would open it. Sorry that wasn't clear.
