WACKY forum happenings???

AFSDMS wrote on 1/19/2001, 11:32 AM
I posted a question about Pre and Post-Fader options. I got
a reply, but I could not get it to work as described. I
posted another reply in the thread asking for
clarification, now my original message is there but shows
NO replies. Is the Forum Admin erasing thread content?

Inquiring minds need to know :-)

Pre and Post Fader options.
Select the FX send that you want to alter (you know the
slider under the volume slider). Right click (right mouse
button) on the FX slider. You'll see a list of two
options: Pre and Post fader. Easy.

Wayne, My replies are still there. There just 4 threads
ahead of your original post now. Hit the "next" button and
look for the same title, is the only way to track your
replies down. Sonic Foundry's web designer is still
reading the manual on threading and this problem will be
fixed once he steals the frames from the Protools or Nuendo
forums website and paste some sonic foundry graphics over
them.

SF should check out the new Mixtreme forum software. It
loads faster and allows the user to set font size with the
browser.

It is getting to be a real chore sorting these threads out
and then reading them once that's done because of the tiny,
unadjustable font size.

Sadly, it is fast approaching not being worth the effort.

I agree Karl, I just think it's pretty much a joke, when a
software company can't reliably put up their own website, a
multimedia internet driven software company at that, and it
takes even more than a week to correct the problem. Q:
What is a website? A: Software. Sonic Foundry should be
embarrassed by this, and someone in their management
department should put their foot down and say "Hey let's
get this fixed...this is making us look like idiots".
There are many websites that have forums and their forums
thread correctly and they're running tips on basket
weaving, and have no software or internet background....get
my point?

I don't know what the deal is, but I cannot post a reply
directly to Brett's note to me, so. . .

Thanks Brett. What had me baffled was that the volume
slider in question is really the "Multi-purpose fader." On
my 8 track recordings (8 mono tracks) I had always left
this control set to Pan for positioning. I knew I had to be
missing something simple.

Thanks again!

PS. Looks like they have the threading 'sorta' working here!

I've been doing some live 8-track recording, but I am going
to be doing a recording in May where I have more time to
set up and can even do some overdubbing. The source is a
performing choir and they have a variety of instruments
(piano, xylophone, cello, violins, flute) in various
numbers, so I might try some multi-track work. I have a
couple good reference works, but wondered if you have any
preferred forum (I'm not set up to do newsgroups and want
to avoid them) where folks discuss these kinds of issues.

I'm looking for suggestions on how to break up a session,
what parts to record at what point, etc. (Probably the
choir first, unless I can come up with 160 pair of
headphones :-) I'm also looking for a recommendation on
some economical near-field monitors and a rackmount power
amp. I don't need anything exoteric and it won't need to
take all the abuse of a road band.)

I am also a rack mount 4x-compressor/limiter to go between
the 8 direct outs of my Mackie 1604 VLZ Pro and the inputs
of my Delta 1010. I had a live situation where I had no
ability to set any levels on the first number before the
performance started. (Thank heavens for 110+ dB s/n when
you have a track that peaks at -26 dB! :-)Because I need to
reconfigure my equipment, I'm also looking for a rackmount,
balanced patch panel.

Any suggestions or experiences appreciated. I did check-out
www.prorec.com, but still have to dig deeper into the
content there.

Thanks much.
