Wait for 64bit?

I was really expecting version 6 to say somehting about support for XP 64bit edition. I am planning on getting xp64 with the computer I will be building shortly. Supposedly Sony will support the 64bit architecture when xp64 is released, which should be this month. I render alot and have complained about the render times for my mpeg-2 files. I mainly edit weddings with several layers and effects for my highlight clips. Should I wait a little, or is everyone feeling that the render times are dramaitcally faster. I will be having a dual processor system.

I am upgrading my computer and am thinking about going dual Xeon 3.0's with 2GB ram. I currently have 1GB ram and a P4 2.6w HT. Also, should I consider Dual Opteron's instead? I don't want to start a CPU flaming thread, just trying to get ideas on the best way to approach this.

Thanks.
