Want smooth but get herky-jerky motion keyframes

I know others have posted about this but I am really struggling to get smooth motion in Vegas since the path feature went away (Vegas 5?). Specifically, I am using track motion to move an event left -> right while it moves closer to the viewer in z-space.

What I want to do is have the z-space motion at "full" speed for the first 2 seconds, then slow to 1/4 speed for the remaining 4 seconds. No matter what I do, the transition point looks pretty amatureish.

Ironically, I've found that "fast" or "linear" key frames with smoothness set to 100 produces a smoother speed transition than does "smooth" or "slow". But it is still pretty hokey looking.

I've grown use to the great control that After Effects provides for motion keyframes (Easy-in and Easy-out, and/or path editor).

Has anyone found a workaround in Vegas 8 other than creating a slew of step-down keyframes?

How about this:

1. Set the zoom at full speed all the way through
2. Add a Velocity Envelope and slow it down after the first 2 seconds.

Edward, the velocity envelope would be a good solution EXCEPT I am using track motion here. The reason I am using track motion is I am parenting several tracks so I can move them as a unit.

I wish there was a way to use velocity envelopes on track motion.

Render it out and then use the rendered version with a velocity envelope???

Yep, I can make that work. Thanks Edward.
