Hello guys,

I am fairly new to Vegas Pro and I have been running into the issue of not knowing how to solve a problem related to video importing. I keep getting told the reason for the error could not be determined, and it's getting fairly frustrating, as I thought mp4 and MKV are both supported by Vegas (forgive me if I am wrong)!
I am using the av1 codec for recording.

I use OBS to record, and considering its one of the most used recording softwares on the planet, I assumed it is fully supported by Vegas.

Can someone explain to me what I might be doing wrong?
Thank you in advance!

AV1 codec with OBS? I'm curious where you found that setting in OBS

MP4 is not a video format. It's a container. It can contain any of many different formats. Think of MP4 as a paper sack that can hold many different things. The important part is what "thing" is in that paper sack.

In your second line, you've stated you're recording in AV1. That's a brand new format supported by VEGAS so I'd expect there to be some issues until it matures. So, why AV1?

I use a camera to record mp4 and that works fine in Vegas.

OBS is fully supported in VEGAS- you just need to choose settings that are appropriate for editing. If you use MKV have it remux to AVC in MP4. You can also do fragmented MP4 and have it remux to regular AVC MP4. Limit keyframe interval to 1 (1 per second worth of frames) for better performance.

I'd avoid AV1 for editing.
