Warp flow in VMS17?

FayFen wrote on 5/16/2020, 5:50 AM

Correct me,

As I watch Gary's "What's New in VEGAS Movie Studio 17" at 32:45

What I see is a feeze frame morph and nothing flows. Is this it or just in Gary's trans settings?

Thank you.

It flows from one shot to the other. There is no freeze. It probably appeared like that as he was dragging the position back and forward.

The last frame of the first event when the transition starts and the first frame of the next event when the transition ends are frozen during the time of the transition. That's the way this particular Warp Flow Transition works. It's only meant for short transitions times and not too much movement in the shot.

To elaborate this is what the Help item states.

There is no actual visible freezing as the image is "warping". It also mentions"Smart Split" but the link doesn't work and searching Help only brings up this Warp Flow item?

VMS17p manual is a secret so I don't have the chance to read about it.

10 years ago I had a small XP freeware utility that could morph images or videos, I guess we are not there yet.

True but the warp is based on a single frozen frame (two single frozen frames) instead of using all continued frames of the transition. So the movements of objects, like the cars in the demo, will stop during the transition which looks like a break if the transition is too long and/or if there's too much movement.

I see a freeze frame, morph to another freeze frame and then back to live action. So it is freezing.

My tutorial may offer some more details.

I don't know when Vegas and VMS inherit the love for freeze frames, but I don't like it as it kills the flow. it should not be a common solution and I wonder how often you see freeze frame on your favorite channel, streaming documentary or drama.

If this "warp flow" needs to be just 2 frames to be effective, than cross-fade/mask fade is just as good. If no settings than all warps are the same? does it check frame content at all?

** My other NLE also introduce such warp thing recently but I didn't install that version as it realy crap.

P.s. If you want video morph google for the freeware Sqirlz Morph from 2009.

The Warp Flow transition works fine for me for cutting moments out of statements/interviews.

This is just fine, it's a mater of esthetics.

We may be "old fashioned" but for the youtube/instegram/ generation, nothing wrong with a jump-cut. If it's right than it's it's right.

It's using given tools in a creative manner. Giving a bass player a four string bass would not let him start complaining that there are seven string basses available. There are lots of NLE without any warp flow fx.
