I have Movie Studio and was thinking about upgrading to Pro, but then I saw all these posts about crashes in the latest build of v11. So my question is was there a v11 build that did not crash?
That's not good because 10e won't open Movie Studio 11 projects. So none of the v11 builds are good? Has anyone compiled a list of crash triggers in the latest build?
@MikeLV: It depends. I also migrated from the Studio version to Vegas Pro version 8 some years ago - and have never looked back since.
Since then I have been keen to enjoy the newest features of the newest versions - but have never changed my daily work to a new Vegas version before I had tested it with the media, workflow etc. that I normally use.
I am still officially on Version 10.0e - but the last 2 weeks I have edited and finished a 30 minutes documentary in Version 11 build 595 and with GPU assist (Nvidia 450) as a final test before -possibly- changing to version 11 for good.
Conclusion: with the used media (257 clips of AVCHD 50i and 50p at 25 and 28 Mbps plus some large jpg stills) there have been no hickups and everything have worked well.
In these 2 weeks and editing Version 11 for hours every day I have seen only 1 single crash - possibly coming from the graphics card going into standby mode during nightly render. Next day I did precisely the same render several times with various parameters (threads, preview RAM) and they all finished well.
So as of now I change to version 11.
Advantage? well: for me mainly an even better real-time preview (at transitions and crossfades) than version 10.0e could do - and to get slightly faster render times. ... And to prepare for the next machine with a heavy Ivy Bridge CPU plus a mega graphics card.
"So my question is was there a v11 build that did not crash?"
For every poster experiencing problems with their installation, there are many more who aren't experiencing any problems at all.
Download the trial and try it out with a copy of your project files. If you experience problems you can stay with VMS.
GPU means: graphical processing unit. It's your video card's brain. With Vegas Pro 11, rendering can be accelerated if you have certain video cards. For AMD cards, it means Radeon HD5770 and higher. As for the NVidias, I cannot remember where it starts. But a great video card makes a great difference.
I was doing 100% 64-bit (used NR in SoundForge) and crashed consistently when I used video fx. It wouldn't happen on the first time using an FX, but would happen at some point. Tried all kinds of things and then installed 32-bit. Everything works fine. native FX, 3rd party, titler. No crashes at all wiht 32-bit.
I still want the benefits of 64-bit and will work with Sony to get it. But thought I'd pass on my experience. Good luck all.
