It sounds like the .mov codec in VMS may be experiencing "white clipping" as explained towards the bottom of THIS article.

If so, you may be forced to use a program such as SUPER or Handbrake (or any other of many converters) to convert your avi file to mov.

...or, what happens if you export to .avi first (you say this stays white) and then you just use Movie Studio to plop the end-result .avi on a timeline then export as .mov?
