Waste of money...

Ok, I'm trying very hard to hold back my anger while posting this message...

This happens to me ALL THE TIME. Whenever I work on a project in video factory, and save the project, sooner or later, when I go back to work on it some more, I get an error message when loading the project file,

"An error occured while loading the project so-and-so.vf."

"The reason for the error could not be determined."

And ALL OF MY WORK IS FOR NOTHING!!!!!!! I've spent 2 days, a total of at least 12 hours working on this project, and now, its all gone. Video Factory will not load it, and I can't do crap about it. This happened to me with v1.0, and now with v2.0.

v1.0 was completely removed before installing v2.0a. I did nothing to the media files that the project is using. They are all in the same directory, and they have not been touched. This has happened to me almost EVERY TIME! I've had to start almost every project over from scratch, at least once. This is completely unacceptable.

I wuz going to upgrade to vegas video for the $149, but I may as well throw that money in the fireplace, I'd get more use out of it that way. If I can't reload my saved project files, this program is completely worthless!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Don't get me wrong, I love Video Factory, and what it can do, but if you can't load your saved projects, what good is it?

Has anyone else ever had this problem, or have any idea what can cause it? The error message doesn't do me a bit of good. It's basically telling me "Yer screwed, don't know what to tell ya."

Please help. Thank you.

Please send one of the problem project (.vf) files to
sonicepm@sonicfoundry.com and I'll take a look. This shouldn't be happening obviously-

Since I don't work for or speak for Sonic Foundry, I don't have to be polite. I can understand your anger and frustration. But I've been hanging on this board for a while, and haven't seen anyone post with a similar problem. Have you contacted tech support yet? Why not just see if you can get joy from tech support before ranting? SonicEPM's post to me is evidence that your situation is unusual and that they would like to resolve it immediately.

But I hear your pain.

I'm on it. But I will have to send the file the next time it happens (I'm SURE it will) because I already deleted all the files that were related to the project, and started over. But I will keep the .vf file next time, and send it over. It should happen very soon.

And yes, I did contact tech support, but naturally, haven't heard from them yet. This is why I came here, to see if anyone else knew what the problem could be. Responses are always quicker on forums than from anyones tech support, I'm sure you know this. I'm not complaining about it, thats just how it is and I'm well aware of it.

As I stated in my first post, I don't dislike video factory, I love it. In fact, I've "recruited" other people to switch from ulead! But if I can't load my saved projects, what good is it?? ;) We all know editing video can take a long time, and without being able to save it and reload it later, its a waste of time. And I think 12 hours is alot of time to waste...

I know that this is not a problem with my computer. Because like I said, I did nothing on the computer between the last time I saved it, and went to reload it again, and I got the error. Tell me you wouldn't be angry! :)

And hey, I think I did pretty good not to be rude. You don't wanna hear what I wuz saying to the walls here! :)

Thanx guys!

Email technical support does seem to take a long time, doesn't it?

I have to agree. Tech support has been amazing for an entry level product. OK it has been for Vegas too. Try a company like Sonic with more expensive products and you pay $39 just to hear their recording.

I had a concern about the LIGOS decoder taking over Windows Media Playback and within a day I was emailed a registry script to work with the concern. They want to help!

I had a similar problem with a larg file. I found that if I start up VF and stretch out the screen so only about 30 seconds of time line are showing, then load the project, it will load fine. Then slowly, yes slowly change the time line to reveal more project lttle by little the project should be fine. At least that worked for me. I too was pretty upset at first but it worked for me. Yes, VF is awesome, I love it too.

Hmmm. Thats weird. I will have to try it next time. And like I've said, there more than likely, WILL be a next time! :( So far so good right now though...
