Way to tell which clips have been used?

Is there a way to tell which clips have already been used in a project?

If I have the "explorer view" opened in the lower left area of the screen, I can see all of the clips created in the capture, but I would like to be able to tell which ones I have already added to the timeline.

I guess you can go to the "project media" tab, but it gets to be a pain flipping back and forth comparing to see which clips have and haven't been used.

Also - is there a way to view thumbnails of the clips in the Explorer view?

one more...

Is there a way to tell the recorded date of a clip without doing the "right click - properties" thing?

I don't know of any way to tell whether or not a clip has been used in a project. Even seeing it in the Project Media window doesn't mean much because you can have clips there that havent actually been added to the timeline (or that have been added, then removed).

However, you can actually get a great bit of info about a file by viewing it in the project media window, and selecting the "details" view (instead of thumbnails). You may have to scroll clear to the right of the window to see all the info (date, time, timecodes, etc.)

One of the fields in the detail view should be "use count" (at least this appears in the full version of Vegas). This will tell you how many times that clip appears on the timeline, which could of course be 0 indicating it's not used. Note that audio/video clips will probably show multiples of 2 since the audio portion and the video portion count as separate uses on the timeline.

It's a bit of a bother, but you can right-click a clip, then Properties, and it will tell you the name of the clip.

I must be old fashioned - I just make a simple list on a note pad, number them in the order I want to use them, and draw a line thru it as I drop them in.

another thing that may help organize your clips is to rename them in such a way that it is easier to recognize before you drop them into vegas. I have done this on a number of occasions where I have a lot of small bits.
