Web output help ...

Hi, I could use some help. I stopped doing video in Vegas 8. Wasn't fun anymore because of all the formats and aspect ratios and other complex technical stuff. Couldn't cope. But guess what? Suddenly I gotta put out a series of 30 second clips. No way out of it. It's gotta be me. So I upgrade to Vegas Pro 11 and presto, I'm lost. I opened the Render As dialog and there was thirteen million choices. Go figure. My output size is 512x288 (16:9). Took me twenty minutes to find the place where I could plug these numbers in. Now what? The clips will be hosted on a commercial web site (no youtube or vimeo stuff). I figure mp4 is the way to go because it seems like a popular thing to do. But I have to worry about the player I pick because it has to work in all browsers so I could use some help about if mp4 is the way to go. And the last question is if it is indeed an mp4 solution, which one do I pick? They got two of them to choose from. TIA for any input.

Brian

Here's what I'd suggest.

1) Start with the MainConcept AVC/AAC Internet HD Template
2) Click "Customize Template"
3) Change to a Custom Framesize / 512 x 288
4) Change the name to something that makes sense "Custom 512x288"? Click the "Save" icon.
5) You'll need to experiment with the bitrate as 8Mbps is probably way too high. 500Kbps is probably a good place to start for a 512x288 framesize and website playback.
6) If you feel adventurous, search this forum on "HandBrake"

Well, Jerry, you can't get much clearer than that. Thank you kindly.

Yup, while initially maybe confusing to consider an outside free app like Handbrake, I finally broke down and got it due to thoughtfully crafted recommendations by Jerry and others here for using that for the best Web quality MP4s. Better in most cases than what Vegas can do. Due to this I finally outgrew FLV and ain't turnin back :)
