Web Site Links - Added into Video

reamenterprises wrote on 2/12/2004, 7:31 AM
Vegas Users,

I have a new client who is looking to have a link of their website added to their pc compatible video. They have shared that "Flash" can do this. I would prefer to not invest into the Flash program just for this feature.

Is there a way, by using Vegas, that we can add web links at the end of a video clip?

Thanks,

Chad

Just figure the price of Flash into the cost job. If that's what the client wants, let the client pay for it.

Yes, you can do it from Vegas. Use the command feature off the Insert choice on the Tool bar. IYou are limted as to what file types support it. Just from memory I think its Real and Window media.

Its covered well in the built-in help.

Park the cursor where you want the link flip to occur. Press the C key for Command. in the dialog box, chose HTTP. Input your weblink, complete with the HTTP in the link name. You can insert metadata into WMA, WMV, Quicktime, REAL file formats. You can also trigger a flash movie, open a sidebar webpage, sync images to the video in a separate webpage, or insert text for subtitles. If the client is doing anything with federal or state money or clients, Rule 508 requires this anyway.

BillyBoy and Spot,

Thanks for the feedback. Often of times I do not get the opportunity to explore and understand all the features in vegas until I have to.

Thanks,

Chad

Can you render a DVD that will:

-play on a PC with a link like you mentioned
-that will also play in a settop DVD player?

Obviously you won't be able to follow the link to the web from the settop player, but I want to know if having the link will make it unplayable by the settop player.
thanks,

MPEG is not one of the formats that support the specific "command" sequences just described.

You may be able to place PC compatible files (WMV,Real,Quicktime) onto the DVD in addition to the starndard DVD video/folders and <perhaps> that might work for you. Never tried it so that may be a wild goose chase!

Check out Multimedia Builder from www.mediachance.com I think it's only like $50 and can do pretty much all you want and a LOT more! It's comparable to Director on the PC, but a lot easier to use.

VV Users,

As much as I try I am still having a challenge in creating a *.wmv file that has the video clip and then a link for a user to click on to get to a web site.

Can anyone provide specific step by step process to incorporate this.

Thanks,

Chad

Hi Spot,

I just did that but the the link didn't work on the wmv. I selected the frame and all, wrote the URL but when playing the video, nothing happens.

Is this suppose to happen?

thanks

VV Users.. and Dfields,

That is exactly what I am experiencing. I am entering the command line, rendering to *.wmv8 and I still get no response from the clip.

Thanks,

Chad

Chad,

I just realized that in other computers it opens. I really don't know what is happening.
Here at my work no computer opened it (win 2000) but at my wife's computer it did open.
At a friends computer it opened but mine at home didn't. I wonder what maybe going on.
I don't seem to find any reason for this.

This behaviour may be related to new security measures Microsoft has implemented in WM player 9. Is there any coorelation between the computers that will and won't throw the link as to which version of Windows Media Player they have?

If so, you can review item #6 in the wmp9 section at:
http://www.nwlink.com/~zachd/pss/pss.html#wmp9

Zach is a member of the windows media development team, this site is an unofficial grab-bag of gotchas, tips, and tricks.

Note that the function you want is commonly called url flipping or url hurling.

Almost forgot - there is also a control in WMP preferences that may be worth looking at:
tools|options|security|Run script commands when present

Now it is working.

thanks.
